Greg Landry scored on only 1 TD pass, a 74-yard screen to Steve Owens, but set up virtually all the other Lions' points before the largest crowd ever to see a regular season pro game in New England. Errol Mann kicked a 23-yard field goal in the first period, suffered a concussion making a tackle on a kickoff and came back to boot a 27-yard field goal in the third period along with two conversions.

A powerful defense helped Oakland to its first shutout since 1968 when the Raiders beat Cincinnati by an identical 34-0 score. Daryle Lamonica connected with Fred Biletnikoff twice in the second half and the Raiders' rushing was over the 200 yard mark for the second straight game. Ken Stabler, late replacement for Daryle Lamonica, wrapped up the scoring with a 1-yard rollout.
