Pro football's longest game ended after 82 minutes and 40 seconds when Garo Yepremian, a left-footed Cypriot, kicked a 37-yard field goal in 7:40 of the second sudden death overtime period for a 27-24 Miami victory over Kansas City. Yepremian's winning kick, sending Miami into the AFC final round, was set up by Larry Csonka's 29-yard run.

Jan Stenerud missed a 31-yard field goal attempt with 31 seconds to go in regulation time and had a 42-yard try blocked by Nick Buoniconti in the first overtime period. Bob Griese, who completed 20 of 35 passes, brought Miami from behind three times, tying the score late in the fourth quarter on a five-yard pass to Marv Fleming.
