The Colts had the statistics weigh heavily in their favor but lost to the Cardinals in a game in which Jim O'Brien was able to make only one of five field goal attempts. Tim Van Galder, starting at quarterback in his first regular NFL game, set up St. Louis' winning TD with a 71-yard third quarter pass to TE Jackie Smith. Donny Anderson took it in from the 4-yard line. Larry Wilson intercepted a Johnny Unitas pass on the St. Louis 2-yard line in the fourth quarter to help stave off the Colts, and Bob Rowe blocked two field goals.
