The Chargers registered their first victory with a strong defensive effort against Denver in which six Bronco passes were intercepted, three by Joe Beauchamp who had been moved the previous week from cornerback to free safety. Denver got off to a fast start when Randy Montgomery returned the opening kickoff 94 yards for a TD, but the Denver running attack was limited to eight yards in the first half. The Broncos' Jim Turner failed to kick a successful field goal for the first time in 39 games.
