The Packers, who gained only 59 yards and did not throw a pass in the first half, nevertheless took a 17-7 intermission lead. Chicago failed to get off a punt in the first period and this set up a 12-yard touchdown by John Brockington. Six minutes later, Ike Thomas returned a kickoff 89 yards to precede a one-yard TD sneak by quarterback Scott Hunter. Green Bay rookie Chester Marcol kicked three field goals to establish a team record of 20 for the season. The victory and Detroit's loss to Minnesota gave the Packers sole possession of first place in the NFC Central Division.
