The Bears had succeeded earlier with the fake punt on a direct pass to blocking back Bob Parsons but failed the second time when Parsons was stopped for a three-yard loss. Two TD passes by Roger Staubach helped Dallas open up 17-3 lead at halftime but a 59-yard punt return by Ike Hill and a score by Carl Garrett tied the score.
