O. J. Simpson became the first player in NFL history to gain over 1,000 yards rushing in seven games. He boosted his season total to 1,025 with a record 39 carries for 157 yards as the Bills beat Kansas City. The first Monday night game in Buffalo started with two quick Bills scores after Jim Cheyunski recovered a fumble and intercepted a pass. Simpson's 39 carries topped the old mark of 38 set by Harry Newman of the New York Giants in 1934 and tied by Jim Nance of Boston in 1966.
