Roger Staubach kept his cool despite six sacks and threw two touchdown passes to tight end Jean Fugett, knocking Denver out of first place in the AFC West. Staubach connected on 14 of 18 passes for 240 yards and moved into first place among NFC passers. The Cowboys held the Broncos without a touchdown until the final 91 seconds. Bill Van Heusen's 78-yard punt proved to be the longest in the AFC in 1973. Denver had gone unbeaten in the last seven weeks with five wins and two ties.
