. . . where the 1970s live forever!

All NFL game summaries for 12/30/1973:

A 54-yard Fran Tarkenton to John Gilliam touchdown pass and Bobby Bryant's 63-yard interception return for another score provided the impetus as Minnesota defeated Dallas 27-10 in the 1973 NFC championship game on a clear, sunny, 60-degree day in Texas Stadium. After Minnesota built a 10-0 halftime lead, Dallas pulled within three points on Golden Richards' 63-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third period.

But 1:03 later, Tarkenton connected with Gilliam to ease the pressure. Then cornerback Bryant, who had two of Minnesota's four interceptions, picked off a Roger Staubach pass and sprinted down the sideline for a touchdown, which lifted the Vikings' advantage to 24-10 early in the fourth period. The Vikings' defense limited the Cowboys to 153 yards and forced six turnovers. Minnesota's offense ran 72 plays to only 49 by the Cowboys.

Larry Csonka blasted the Oakland defense for three touchdowns and 117 yards on 29 carries as Miami moved into the Super Bowl for a record-setting third straight year with a 27-10 victory over Oakland. Csonka's touchdowns, 18 points, and total rushes set records for an AFC title game. Bob Griese directed the Dolphins' 292-yard attack while throwing only 6 passes and completing 3. Csonka's three scores came on runs of 11, 2 and 2 yards. Oakland, trailing 14-0 at the half, scored on George Blanda's 21-yard field goal that was soon balanced by Garo Yepremian's 42-yarder. A Ken Stabler to Mike Siani 25-yard pass narrowed the gap to 17-10 late in the third quarter. Csonka's third touchdown and another Yepremian field goal wrapped it up in the final period.
