Cullen Bryant, recently moved from defensive back to running back, raced 84 yards on a kickoff return to nail down a 17-10 win for Los Angeles over Denver in the first interconference game of the season. Bryant's run came late in the third period after the Broncos had narrowed the gap to 10-3. Denver scored again in the final minutes on a pass from Charley Johnson to Bill Van Heusen. The Rams' defense, led by Fred Dryer and Jack Youngblood, sacked Johnson six times for 40 yards.
