Saints' punter Donnie Gibbs fumbled a snap and Willie Harper blocked his attempted punt which was recovered by Windlan Hall at the New Orleans 9-yard line with San Francisco trailing 13-10 in the final two minutes. On the next play, Sammy Johnson ran for the winning touchdown. San Francisco, which lost all six preseason games and the services of quarterback Steve Spurrier, had Joe Reed directing the offense.
