Charlie Hall's interception on the final play saved the Packers' victory after Bert Jones, taking over from Marty Domres, led a late Colts' comeback that produced one TD and threatened to add another. MacArthur Lane scored both Green Bay TDs while the Packers picked off four Baltimore passes, one by Jim Hill leading to a score on the next play. The Colts' Lydell Mitchell ran for 63 yards and caught 5 passes for 47 yards. Chester Marcol's 52 yard field goal for the Packers in the first period was the longest of the season in the NFL.

The Dolphins rebounded from an opening day defeat to knock off the Bills with the help of two TD passes by Bob Griese, set up by recovered Buffalo fumbles. Mercury Morris and Nick Buoniconti, who missed the opener, returned and Morris gained 88 yards on 13 carries, scoring on a 17-yard run. O. J. Simpson returned after sitting out the second half of the last game and was held to 63 yards on 15 carries, fumbling twice. Ahmad Rashad recovered one of O. J.'s fumbles for a Buffalo TD. Garo Yepremian's 22-yard FG iced it with 1:06 to go.

Dan Fouts brought the Chargers 98 yards in a last quarter drive, scoring the winning TD on a one-yard sneak. The Chargers were third and 10 on their own 2 when Fouts hit Jim Beirne for an 18-yard gain, starting the winning march. Gary Garrison caught eight passes for 116 yards as Fouts hit 13 of 24 behind perfect protection from his offensive line. The NFL's first regular season overtime game ended in a tie after 60 minutes of regulation play and 15 minutes of sudden death. The Broncos led 21-7 at the end of the first quarter but Joe Gilliam, who completed 31 of 50 passes for 348 yards and one TD, brought the Steelers back. Barney Chavous and Bill Thompson blocked a Pittsburgh 25-yard FG try by Roy Gerela with five seconds left in regulation time. John Rowser, ex-Steeler, stopped a Pittsburgh overtime drive with an interception and Jim Turner's 41-yard FG try was wide with 3:13 to go in the extra period. The game lasted 3 hours 49 minutes with 160 plays, 93 by the Steelers. Denver's Otis Armstrong topped the rushers with 131 yards and added 86 as a pass receiver.

The Lions recovered a Vikings fumble on the opening kickoff and moved to a fourth-and-goal situation at the Minnesota 1-yard line but failed to score, and a pair of Errol Mann field goals were not enough to overcome Chuck Foreman's 11-yard touchdown run and Fred Cox's winning extra point. It marked the 13th consecutive Minnesota victory over Detroit. Foreman's touchdown was his fourth in two games.

Ken Stabler, the AFC passing leader in 1973, threw three TD passes and the Raiders' defense intercepted five passes, sacked the quarterbacks four times and held the Chiefs to 48 yards passing. Rookie tight end Dave Casper caught two of Stabler's scoring passes and Mike Siani grabbed the third. Kansas City's only score came on Wilbur Young's 52-yard run with an interception. Len Dawson was injured and left the game after the first half, Mike Livingston replacing him.

Defensive end Ron Yankowski ran 71 yards with a recovered fumble after linebacker Pete Barnes' tackle jarred the ball loose from Billy Kilmer. Moments later Terry Metcalf dashed 75 yards for the longest run from scrimmage of the season in the NFC. Jim Tolbert intercepted a fourth-down Kilmer pass in the final minute to thwart a late threat by Washington, which was playing without Larry Brown. Duane Thomas rushed for 96 yards as Brown's replacement.
