Defensive end Ron Yankowski ran 71 yards with a recovered fumble after linebacker Pete Barnes' tackle jarred the ball loose from Billy Kilmer. Moments later Terry Metcalf dashed 75 yards for the longest run from scrimmage of the season in the NFC. Jim Tolbert intercepted a fourth-down Kilmer pass in the final minute to thwart a late threat by Washington, which was playing without Larry Brown. Duane Thomas rushed for 96 yards as Brown's replacement.
