Bob Griese hit with nine straight passes and Miami built up a 14-0 halftime lead but had to fight off a closing surge by Joe Namath that included an 89-yard scoring pass to Rich Caster, the longest of the season in the NFL. Jake Scott had two of the three interceptions against Namath, the last coming on a deflected ball with 19 seconds to go. Tim Foley also broke up a Namath pass to Jerome Barkum in a vital defensive play in the closing minute. The Dolphins played without injured Paul Warfield and Mercury Morris.
