Houston recovered five Cincinnati fumbles and sacked Ken Anderson five times to upset the Bengals. Defensive end Elvin Bethea ran 38 yards for a TD after recovering a fumble in the last quarter and Dan Pastorini hit Billy Parks with a touchdown pass to seal the victory. Ronnie Carroll recovered three of the fumbles. Anderson set a club record by hitting with 30 of 44 passes for 352 yards and three scores, two to Isaac Curtis and one to Boobie Clark. Anderson had 371 yards total offense, erasing another club record held by Greg Cook.
