In one of the wildest games of the season, the Chargers gained 424 yards and edged the Browns on a 40-yard field goal by Ray Wersching with 55 seconds to play. The Browns still had a chance to pull it out but Brian Sipe, who had done a fine job in his first start, fumbled and the Chargers recovered on the 13 with 22 seconds left. Dan Fouts threw for 333 yards and four touchdowns, hitting rookies Don Woods three times for 119 yards and Harrison Davis four times for 142 yards.
