The Lions erupted for their highest point total of the season and registered their sixth victory in the last seven games while the Bears were suffering their fifth straight loss. Detroit, which lost its first four games but climbed to within one game of the Central Division lead after 11 games, lost quarterback Bill Munson, who suffered a right shoulder separation and was replaced by Greg Landry, recently recovered from a left shoulder fracture sustained in the preseason. Dick Jauron's 103 yards in punt returns for the Lions moved him into the NFC top spot in that category.
