After the Giants had taken a 21-20 lead on a Craig Morton-to-Walker Gillette 17-yard touchdown pass with 1:16 left, the Cardinals moved from New York's 46-yard line, following a short kickoff, to the Giants' 18 and Jim Bakken kicked a 36-yard field goal with three seconds remaining for the St. Louis victory which maintained the Big Red's one-game lead in the NFC East. The two previous weeks, the Giants lost 26-20 in overtime to the Jets and 20-19 to the Lions with two seconds to go.
