Joe Namath threw only 14 passes and completed seven for 126 yards and a nine-yard touchdown pass to Rich Caster. Trailing 14-0, the Chiefs struck back for a 14-14 tie in the second period before a 32-yard field goal by Pat Leahy gave the Jets the halftime lead.
