The Oilers remained very much in the AFC Central race with a 3-1 record by rolling over the Browns with the aid of three touchdown passes by Dan Pastorini. All three of Pastorini's scoring passes went to tight end Mack Alston, his first catches of the season. Billy Johnson raced 81 yards for a score with the second-half opening kickoff, his second touchdown on a kick return in two weeks. Skip Butler made good on four of six field goal attempts when drives faltered. Ronnie Coleman had his second 100-yard day with 110 yards on 14 carries while the Oilers' defenders intercepted four of Mike Phipps' passes.
