The Broncos moved into a tie for first with Oakland in the AFC West when Jim Turner's 53-yard field goal, longest of his 12-year pro career, gave the Broncos a dramatic victory over the Browns when the game ended. It was Turner's third field goal of the day and his 10th consecutive successful try of the year. Don Cockroft tied the NFL record of 16 straight field goals (nine in 1974, seven in 1975) before missing a 37-yarder. Cockroft wound up with five of seven for the day, a Cleveland club record and the two clubs tied the NFL record with a total of eight field goals. A 10-yard gain by quarterback Steve Ramsey set up Turner's winning kick.

Houston broke its jinx by beating a NFC team for the first time after going 0-14-1 for five seasons. The Oilers' fourth win in five starts left them tied with Pittsburgh, only one game out of first place in the AFC Central. Rookie Don Hardeman rushed for 66 yards and scored both touchdowns while a key interception by Willie Alexander in the end zone and a sack of Billy Kilmer by Curley Culp for an 11-yard loss shut off the Redskins. Dan Pastorini's accurate passes set up Hardeman's scores. Washington was held to 58 yards rushing.

Mike Livingston led the Chiefs to their second straight win with a 60-yard touchdown pass to rookie tight end Walter White and two field goals by Jan Stenerud. Livingston completed 14 of 23 for 224 yards and White, picked up after he was cut by the Steelers, caught two for 105 yards. Wilbur Young had four of the Chiefs' five sacks of Charger quarterbacks. San Diego lost the services of Don Woods, who set a rookie rushing record of 1,162 yards in 1974, when he suffered torn ligaments in his left knee. Backup quarterback Jesse Freitas' touchdown pass to Sam Scarber put the Chargers out front 10-9 before Stenerud's final field goal, 27 yards, won it.
