Andy Johnson, a reserve back who had minus two yards to show for three previous rushes, gained 124 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Patriots as a sub for the injured Mack Herron, who left the game with damaged ribs. Johnson ran 66 yards for the clinching score in the final quarter on a rainy afternoon. It was New England's first victory after four defeats. Sam Cunningham also scored while gaining 59 yards on 18 carries in the Patriots' 241-yard rushing attack.
