The Broncos moved into a tie for first with Oakland in the AFC West when Jim Turner's 53-yard field goal, longest of his 12-year pro career, gave the Broncos a dramatic victory over the Browns when the game ended. It was Turner's third field goal of the day and his 10th consecutive successful try of the year. Don Cockroft tied the NFL record of 16 straight field goals (nine in 1974, seven in 1975) before missing a 37-yarder. Cockroft wound up with five of seven for the day, a Cleveland club record and the two clubs tied the NFL record with a total of eight field goals. A 10-yard gain by quarterback Steve Ramsey set up Turner's winning kick.
