Joe Ferguson's third touchdown pass of the game, a 64-yarder to O. J. Simpson, capped a Buffalo comeback after they trailed 23-7 in the third quarter. Simpson's 94 yards on 21 carries put him over the 1,000-yard mark for the fourth straight year at 1,005 and also moved him past Leroy Kelly into fourth place in the all-time rushing standings with a career total of 7,311 yards. The Jets, leading 23-17 with barely five minutes to play, passed up a field goal attempt and failed to make yardage on fourth and one at the Bills' 20. Buffalo then moved for the winning touchdown in four plays. John Riggins rushed for 108 yards and Joe Namath threw two touchdown passes for the Jets.
