Viking quarterback Fran Tarkenton completed 24 of 32 passes to establish an NFL record for career completions at 2,841, which surpassed the old mark of 2,830 set by John Unitas. Tarkenton's record-breaking completion was a four-yard gainer to running back Ed Marinaro at the start of a go-ahead touchdown drive in the final two minutes of the first half. Marinaro, who caught 11 passes to set a Minnesota one-game record, climaxed the scoring drive by catching a 16-yard pass from Tarkenton. The touchdown pass by Tarkenton was his 285th, leaving him six short of breaking Unitas' career TD record of 290. Chuck Foreman, with 127 rushing yards for his fifth century game of the season, pushed his NFC-leading rush total to 820 yards.

George Blanda, who missed a 33-yard attempt with eight seconds remaining in regulation time and an extra point attempt after the Raiders first touchdown, kicked a 27-yard field goal on second down after 7:13 of overtime to give Oakland its fifth straight victory and hand the Redskins their second consecutive extra period loss in their third overtime game in four weeks. Washington, which tied the score at 23-23 on a Billy Kilmer to Frank Grant 33-yard touchdown pass with 2:37 left, took the overtime kickoff and marched to Oakland's 43 before being forced to turn over the ball on a punt. In the game, Fred Biletnikoff had nine receptions for 113 yards, the best pass-receiving performance in 1975 in the AFC.
