The Browns won their first game of the season after nine defeats and dropped the Bengals out of a first-place tie in the AFC Central with a comeback victory behind Mike Phipps who passed for two touchdowns. Phipps had his best game ever in six years as a pro, completing 23 of 36 passes for 298 yards. Ken Anderson left the game with a chest injury with the Bengals leading 20-9 in the third quarter. Greg Pruitt joined the exclusive club of players who rushed for 100 yards and caught passes for 100 yards in a single game, with 121 rushing and 106 receiving. Only eight others had done it in NFL history.
