The Rams put together a methodical attack and a smothering defense to overwhelm the Lions and clinch their third consecutive NFC Western Division title while spoiling Detroit's annual Thanksgiving Day home game. Los Angeles quarterback James Harris threw three touchdown passes -- 11 yards to Ron Jessie and 17 and 38 yards to Harold Jackson. In addition to winning its own division title, the Rams also eliminated the Lions in the NFC Central and assured the Vikings of their seventh division title in eight years.
