John Reaves, an understudy to the injured Ken Anderson with only four completions all season, led the Bengals to an important victory that left them one game behind the Steelers and two in front of third-place Houston in the AFC Central. Reaves got the word he would start only 15 minutes before game time and responded with 13 completions in 23 pass attempts, two for touchdowns to Chip Myers in a steady rain.

A 97-yard march in the waning moments, climaxed by Greg Pruitt's eight-yard touchdown run, enabled the Browns to win their second straight after dropping the first nine games. The Browns trailed 16-3 going into the final quarter but Mike Phipps hit Reggie Rucker with a touchdown pass, then directed the winning drive. The margin of victory turned out to be an aborted extra point try after the Saints' second touchdown when a low center snap squirted through holder Archie Manning's hands on the muddy field.

Jim Turner's 25-yard field goal at 4:13 of the sudden death overtime won for the Broncos after he missed a 23-yarder with four seconds left in regulation time. It was the second overtime game the winless Chargers had dropped, both by the same score. Denver piled up 328 yards rushing, including 132 by Jon Keyworth, and held San Diego to three first downs (none in the first half although they led 10-7). Mike Fuller had a 42-yard punt return touchdown for San Diego and the defense intercepted six passes, three by Chris Fletcher.

Pittsburgh won its ninth straight, a club record, and maintained a one-game lead over Cincinnati in the AFC Central as Terry Bradshaw threw two touchdown passes and his mates intercepted Joe Namath four times. Franco Harris sat out most of the first half with a pinched arm nerve but returned in time to catch a 44-yard scoring pass and gain 61 yards rushing for a season total of 899. Mel Blount intercepted his ninth and tenth passes, the third time he picked off two in the same game.

For the second week in a row George Blanda won a sudden death overtime game for Oakland with a field goal. Blanda's 36-yarder as time ran out at 15:00 of the extra period clinched the Raiders' eighth division title in nine years, assuring a playoff spot for the AFC West champions. Blanda's 18-yard field goal with three seconds to go sent the game into overtime after two late scoring drives, directed by rookie Steve Bartkowski, put the Falcons out front 34-31 with 1:10 left in regulation time. Ken Stabler threw four touchdown passes, three to Cliff Branch in the first quarter. Pete Banaszak rushed for 116 yards. Falcons' punter John James booted a 75-yard punt in the game, the NFL's longest in 1975.

Billy Kilmer threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Frank Grant with 40 seconds remaining and Mark Moseley added the extra point to enable the Redskins to pull within one game of the lead in the NFC East while knocking the Vikings from the unbeaten class and snapping Minnesota's two-season, 13-game winning streak. Washington's Ron McDole deflected a 45-yard field goal attempt by Minnesota's Fred Cox as time elapsed. The Vikings had a 30-24 lead with 1:56 remaining, but Kilmer drove the Redskins 77 yards in 71 seconds to produce the victory.
