The Bengals nailed down the wild card berth in the AFC by scoring three touchdowns before San Diego had a chance to run a play from scrimmage and coasted to an easy victory. Ken Anderson, achieving a second straight NFL passing title, completed 18 of 23 for 216 yards and three touchdowns for a season total of 21 and left the game at halftime. Rookie Stan Fritts scored twice for a total of 10 as the Bengals closed out with an 11-3 record, their best ever. Anderson finished with his highest yardage, 3,169, completing 60.5 percent of his passes.
