Trailing 7-3 with 10 minutes left in the game, Cincinnati quarterback Ken Anderson went to the air, throwing touchdown passes of 27 yards to Chip Myers and six yards to Bruce Coslet to give the Bengals their sixth straight home opener victory. Myers, playing with a broken nose, had five catches for 88 yards, two of them coming in the fourth quarter to set up the two Bengals' scores. Otis Armstrong rushed for 96 yards on 24 carries and scored Denver's lone touchdown.
