Oakland jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead on two Ken Stabler touchdown passes and a Fred Steinfort field goal but had to hang on as Mike Livingston guided Kansas City to two touchdowns in the last five minutes of the game. The Raider defense limited the Chiefs' offense to 37 yards in the first half while Stabler engineered touchdown drives of 67 and 72 yards, picking up 288 yards and 16 first downs before intermission. Kansas City came back in the second half, scoring touchdowns on one-yard plunges by Livingston and MacArthur Lane and a 25-yard Livingston to Billy Masters pass, but Oakland got all the points it needed on a 14-yard Stabler to Mike Siani touchdown pass with 2:09 gone in the fourth period.
