Ron Jaworski, pressed into service after Pat Haden was knocked woozy in the second quarter, guided the Rams on an eight-play, 72-yard drive in the fourth quarter to overcome a 12-point Chicago surge. Los Angeles took a 10-0 first quarter lead on a Haden to Lawrence McCutcheon touchdown pass, but saw the lead wiped out by a field goal, safety, and 17-yard TD run by Walter Payton. McCutcheon was outgained 145 to 96 yards by Payton but the Rams' running back scored more points, running 18 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter, his second of the game. Rams' cornerback Monte Jackson had three interceptions.
