Mike Thomas's club record 195 yards and third quarter touchdown plus Mike Moseley's three field goals led the Redskins past the Cardinals for the second time in 1976 and tightened the race in the NFC East. Jim Hart opened the scoring with a 48-yard pass to Terry Metcalf, but the Washington defense pressured Hart the rest of the way, allowing him to complete only 9 of 31 passes and picking up four sacks. The Redskins cut the St. Louis lead to 7-6 at the half and Thomas put Washington ahead to stay with 6:13 in the third quarter on a 22-yard touchdown run.
