Jim Hart opened the scoring with a 48-yard pass to Terry Metcalf, but the Washington defense pressured Hart the rest of the way, allowing him to complete only 9 of 31 passes and picking up four sacks. The Redskins cut the St. Louis lead to 7-6 at the half and Thomas put Washington ahead to stay with 6:13 in the third quarter on a 22-yard touchdown run.
