Three Bob Thomas field goals and a Bob Avellini to James Scott touchdown pass gave the Bears their first season sweep over the Packers since 1963. Walter Payton, with 110 yards for his sixth century game of the season, set up Thomas's first field goal with a 23-yard gain to the Green Bay 30, and the Avellini-Scott combination made it 10-0 at the end of the first half with their 49-yard connection. Green Bay tied the game in the third period before Thomas added the winning points with 31 seconds left in the quarter.
