Jess Phillips' 11-yard third quarter touchdown run capped a 21-point comeback from a 14-0 deficit to give the Patriots their first victory over the Chiefs since 1964. Following touchdown runs by Kansas City's MacArthur Lane and Tony Reed, Darryl Stingley countered with a 34-yard TD scamper and then tied the game on a 21-yard scoring toss from Steve Grogan. Sam Cunningham led all rushers with 105 yards on 23 carries, his ninth career 100-yard game. Both defenses performed well: New England had six sacks and two fumble recoveries while Kansas City had two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and two sacks.
