Ron Jaworski made his Philadelphia debut with a pair of touchdown passes and the Eagles' defense held the Buccaneers to 118 net yards as Philadelphia won its first opening day game since 1967. Jaworski combined with Tom Sullivan midway through the second period for the Eagles' first score. Late in the third quarter, Jaworski engineered a 14-play, 95-yard drive that was capped by a 17-yard scoring pass to tight end Keith Krepfle. Philadelphia's defense sacked Buccaneers' quarterback Randy Hedberg four times, allowed only 26 net yards passing, and forced Tampa Bay to punt 11 times. Larry Marshall returned nine of those to tie an NFL record.
