Don Cockroft's 35-yard field goal after 4:45 of overtime gave the Browns the win in both teams' first overtime game. Cockroft's winning field goal came on second down at the Patriots 18 after the Browns had won the coin toss. John Smith tied the game as time ran out in the fourth period on a 28-yard field goal. Cockroft had booted a 37-yarder to break a 24-24 tie just 55 seconds earlier. Greg Pruitt enjoyed his fourth career 100-yard rushing game with 151 yards and threw his fourth touchdown pass in nine career attempts, a five-yard pass to Brian Duncan for the game's first score.
