Fran Tarkenton engineered scoring drives of 80, 72 and 64 yards for the Vikings' fifth straight win over the Packers and coach Bud Grant's 100th regular season victory. Lynn Dickey opened the scoring on the third play of the game with a 95-yard scoring pass to Steve Odom. The play was one yard shy of the Packers' longest pass on record. Tarkenton countered with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Sammy White on the ensuing series to tie the score and Chuck Foreman scored the winning points 2:33 into the second period on a three-yard run. Sammy Johnson added an insurance touchdown for the Vikings midway through the final period, carrying the ball 17 yards on the last three downs of a 12-play drive.
