Steve Grogan passed for three touchdowns as the Patriots defeated the Jets 24-13. The Jets scored first on a 36-yard field goal by Pat Leahy, but a 30-yard field goal by John Smith and a Grogan-to-Darryl Stingley TD pass put the Patriots ahead 10-3. Richard Todd passed 30 yards to Jerome Barkum for a touchdown, enabling the Jets to tie the game at 10-10. In the third quarter, Grogan found rookie Stanley Morgan on a 52-yard scoring bomb, and on the next possession threw a four-yarder to Don Hasselbeck to put the Patriots in front to stay.
