The game was played in a driving snowstorm but that didn't bother Anderson and the rest of the Bengals as they scored on their first three possessions.

Craig Morton threw two touchdown passes and ran for another to lead the Broncos to a 27-13 win. Morton staked the Broncos to a 14-3 halftime lead on touchdown passes of 41 yards to Rick Upchurch and 19 yards to Jack Dolbin. The Colts rallied on the passing of Bert Jones to pull to within 14-13 and were driving for another possible score when Tom Jackson intercepted a pass and returned it 73 yards for a touchdown. Denver added an insurance touchdown on Morton's six-yard run after Louis Wright's interception.

Bob Lee passed 40 yards to Sammy White for the go-ahead touchdown and Fred Cox added field goals of 21 and 31 yards to lead the Vikings past the Packers 13-6 in a game played in snowy conditions. Steve Grogan threw his 14th and 15th touchdown passes of the season, the New England defense sacked Ron Jaworski eight times, and the Patriots boosted their record to 7-4 to remain in contention for a playoff berth. Grogan's touchdown passes came in the first and second periods and the New England defense did the rest. Besides eight sacks, the Patriots also intercepted two passes. The Eagles averted a shutout when Jaworski hit Charlie Smith for a touchdown with 52 seconds remaining in the game.

Terry Bradshaw hurled three touchdown passes and Pittsburgh made five interceptions as the Steelers beat the Jets 23-20. Bradshaw's passing set up Franco Harris' one yard touchdown run that broke a 13-13 second period deadlock and gave the Steelers excellent field position for what proved to be the winning points, a 37-yard field goal by Roy Gerela with 5:56 left in the game.

Haskel Stanback scored two touchdowns on one-yard plunges to lead the Falcons to a 17-0 victory. It was the Buccaneers' 25th consecutive loss since entering the NFL as an expansion team. By shutting out the Buccaneers, the Falcons increased their chances of breaking an NFL defensive record set by Minnesota in 1969 when the Vikings allowed only 133 points.
