Pat Haden threw a 43-yard touchdown pass with just 2:10 remaining to give the Rams their fifth straight victory and fifth consecutive divisional title. Lawrence McCutcheon became the Rams' all-time leading rusher, gaining 97 yards to surpass 1,000 yards in a season for the fourth time in his five-year career. McCutcheon, who has carried the ball 1,219 times, surpassed the old record of 1,218 held by Dick Bass, now a radio broadcaster for the Rams. Ken Stabler had put the Raiders on top 14-13 on a 21-yard pass to Dave Casper. Haden hit Harold Jackson for the winning TD. The loss knocked the Raiders out of contention for the AFC Western Division crown.

Rookie Tommy Kramer entered the game in the fourth quarter with the Vikings trailing 24-7 and engineered a dramatic comeback victory that raised Minnesota's record to 8-4 and kept them atop the NFC's Central Division. Delvin Williams' rushing (107 yards and two TDs) and Dave Williams' 80-yard kickoff return staked the 49ers to a 24-0 lead in the third quarter. Kramer came on to throw short TD passes to Ahmad Rashad and Bob Tucker to pull the Vikings within striking distance. That distance turned out to be 69 yards as Sammy White streaked straight down field and Kramer hit him with a perfect pass with only 1:38 remaining on the clock. In just one quarter of play Kramer completed 9 of 13 passes for 188 yards and three TDs.
