Otis Armstrong plunged one yard for a touchdown with 36 seconds remaining to cap Denver's victory over Oakland in a rematch of the 1977 AFC championship game. Larry Canada was the key runner in Denver's clinching drive, carrying five times for 22 yards including a five-yard run on fourth down at Oakland's 18. It was the Broncos' first regular season home victory over Oakland since 1962 and marked the first time since October 5, 1975 that the Raiders failed to score a touchdown in a game.
