Two fourth quarter touchdowns by Robert Newhouse wiped out a 12-7 St. Louis advantage, leading the Cowboys to a 21-12 triumph. The Cardinals opened a 10-point lead before Tony Dorsett's seven-yard touchdown run narrowed the score to 10-7 at the half. After St. Louis blocked a Dallas punt out of the end zone for a safety, Dallas drove 73 yards on nine plays, with Newhouse tallying the winning score. Roger Staubach also hit Newhouse with a touchdown pass later in the fourth period.

Pittsburgh's Terry Bradshaw finished a nine-play, 79-yard drive with a 37-yard gadget pass to Bennie Cunningham at 3:43 of overtime to knock the Browns from the unbeaten ranks. It was Bradshaw's one-hundredth career scoring pass and decided a game that was a battle of field goals for four periods. Cleveland's Don Cockroft and Pittsburgh's Roy Gerela each kicked three. The Pittsburgh defense sacked quarterback Brian Sipe five times and made two interceptions to help move the Steelers alone atop the AFC Central Division.
