Mike Haynes' interception of a Ken Stabler pass set up a one-yard plunge by Sam Cunningham with 16 seconds remaining to earn the Patriots the win and a share of the AFC Eastern Division lead. Steve Grogan set up the winning score, running 28 yards on a rollout to the Oakland 3. Cunningham followed two plays later with the decisive score. Grogan passed for 219 yards and ran for 65 more, and Russ Francis caught five passes for 126 yards. Oakland led 14-0 before New England's offense got untracked.
