Wilbert Montgomery ran 12 yards for a score with 13:30 remaining in the game to break a 10-10 tie and drop the Redskins from the unbeaten ranks. John Sanders returned a Joe Theismann pass 19 yards for a touchdown to give the Eagles a 10-3 halftime edge. John Riggins' three-yard scoring run in the third period tied the game. Jim Betterson returned the ensuing kickoff 44 yards to the Redskins' 47. Four plays later Montgomery scored the game-winner. The loss ended Washington's nine-game regular season win streak and reduced its lead to one game in the NFC East.
