New England's offensive unit, statistically the best in the NFL, generated a club record 529 yards and scored touchdowns on its first seven possessions as the Patriots won their sixth straight game. Steve Grogan connected on scoring passes of 11, 28, 30 and 11 yards en route to 281 passing yards in the first half. Harold Jackson (five receptions for 118 yards and two touchdowns) became the only NFL receiver with three 100-yard plus performances this season. Don Calhoun paced New England rushers with 89 yards on 10 carries. The intradivisional victory advanced the Patriots into sole possession of first place in the AFC East.
