Safety Mike Fuller's 21-yard interception return for a touchdown and Dan Fouts' 16-yard touchdown pass to Bob Klein helped the Chargers build a 19-0 lead on the way to their second straight victory. Lydell Mitchell had his first 100-yard game with the Chargers (101 yards on 28 carries) and became the twelfth player in NFL history to gain 6,000 yards rushing. Mitchell's 101 yards was the best performance by a Chargers' back since the 1975 season. The Bengals scored two touchdowns in the final 1:27 to spoil San Diego's shutout bid.
