Mark van Eeghen, the AFC's leading rusher in 1977, registered three touchdowns for the first time in his career and rushed for 98 yards on 25 carries as Oakland overcame a 14-13 halftime deficit to remain in a first place tie with Denver in the AFC West. Van Eeghen scored on two short touchdown runs and recovered wide receiver Cliff Branch's fumble in the end zone for a third score. The Lions scored two touchdowns within a five-minute span in the second quarter -- a 42-yard pass from Gary Danielson to Freddie Scott and one-yard run by Horace King.
