Matt Bahr's 41-yard field goal 5:01 into overtime gave Pittsburgh the victory. New England snapped Pittsburgh's streak of 16 regular season games without allowing a first-quarter touchdown when Steve Grogan threw a four-yard scoring pass to Russ Francis. The Patriots held the lead until Terry Bradshaw hit Sidney Thornton with a 21-yard touchdown pass with 4:09 left in regulation time to tie the score at 13-13. In overtime, New England received the kickoff, but was forced to punt after three plays. Pittsburgh then drove 45 yards in seven plays for the winning score.
