Don Strock, in relief of injured Bob Griese, passed Miami to 14 fourth-period points as the Dolphins remained undefeated. Strock entered the contest after Rick Danmeier staked Minnesota to a 12-7 third-quarter advantage with four field goals. Miami's comeback was triggered by a recovery of a Tommy Kramer fumble that led to a six-yard scoring toss from Strock (five of seven for 92 yards, and two touchdowns) to Larry Csonka.

Rookie Matt Bahr kicked a 20-yard field goal with 13 seconds left to climax a 17-point fourth-quarter rally as the Steelers remained unbeaten. A four-yard run by Rocky Bleier and Terry Bradshaw's five-yard pass to Bennie Cunningham tied the score at 21, setting the stage for Bahr's second game-winning kick of 1979. The Cardinals, who opened an early 9-0 lead and held a 15-7 halftime edge, were held to 37 net yards in the second half.
